Japanese: 老人雑話 - ろうじんざつわ

An essay written in the early modern period. A book of conversations by Confucian physician Emura Sensai (1565-1664) transcribed and edited by his disciple Ito Tan'an (Sojo). 2 volumes. It is a collection of eloquent anecdotes about military commanders from the Warring States period to the early modern period, as well as military affairs, literature, medicine, Noh, tea, and the geography of Kyoto. The anecdotes about Toyotomi Hideyoshi in particular are outstanding articles, but it cannot be said that all of them are necessarily true. As an essay, it is an excellent piece. Printed versions are included in the Revised Collection of Historical Documents, Selected Essay Literature, and Continued Miscellaneous History of the National Library.

近世初期に成立した随筆。儒医江村専斎(1565‐1664)の談話を門人伊藤坦庵(宗恕)が筆録編集した書。2巻。戦国時代から近世初頭にかけての武将の逸事や軍事，文事，医事，能，茶，京都の地理などに関する話を達意の文章でつづっている。とくに豊臣秀吉に関する逸事は白眉の記事であるが，必ずしもすべてが真実とは言い難い。随筆としては優れたものである。活字本は《改訂史籍集覧》《随筆文学選集》《続国民文庫雑史集》所収。
