American designer of French origin. Graduated from the University of Paris in 1910, he moved to the US in 1919 and worked as an illustrator for magazines such as Bogue. He began working in industrial design in 1929, and established large design offices in the US and France after World War II. His major works include the Sears refrigerator Cold Spot and the Pennsylvania Railroad S-1 locomotive. He came to Japan in 1952 and designed the outer boxes of Peace cigarettes, among other items.
