1860‐1925 German physicist. Graduated from the University of Berlin. Earned his doctorate in optics research, he entered the State Technical Institute in 1887, where he produced the Rummer-Broden photometer (1889) and the Rummer-Gehrke interference spectrometer (1902), among others, and made outstanding achievements in optical measurements. Since 1895, he has been working with W. Wien, E. Pringsheim, and others on experiments measuring cavity radiation, and in 1899 he discovered a deviation from Wien's distribution formula in the infrared region, which had a major impact on M. Planck's discovery of the quantum hypothesis. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
