Ryuei Secret Mirror

Japanese: 柳営秘鑑 - りゅうえいひかん

A book that records the Edo Shogunate's annual ceremonies, formalities, old customs, historical events, and rules and regulations for the duties of the samurai. Compiled by Shogunate official Kikuchi Yamon. 10 volumes. Completed in 1743 (Kanpo 3). Later, the following books were compiled: "Kohhen Ryuei Hikan" (12 volumes), "Shuui Ryuei Hikan" (5 volumes), "Ryuei Hikan Dropouts" (12 volumes), "Onchi Ryuei Hikan" (12 volumes), "Zanshu Ryuei Hikan" (10 volumes), and "Shineki Ryuei Hikan" (10 volumes). A facsimile version (included in "Soukan of Historical Documents Held by the Cabinet Library") of the book formerly owned by the Shoheizaka Gakumonsho (held by the Cabinet Library) is available. 江戸幕府の年中儀礼，格式，旧例，故事，諸士勤務の法規等を記した書物。幕臣菊池弥門の編。10巻。1743年(寛保3)成立。のちに《後編柳営秘鑑》12巻，《拾遺柳営秘鑑》5巻，《柳営秘鑑脱漏》12巻，《温知柳営秘鑑》12巻，《残集柳営秘鑑》10巻，《新益柳営秘鑑》10巻が続撰されている。昌平坂学問所旧蔵本(内閣文庫所蔵)の影印版(《内閣文庫所蔵史籍叢刊》所収)がある。【宮崎勝美】
