Rissho University

It is a private institution. Its founding dates back to the opening of a danrin in 1580 (Tensho 8). In 1904 (Meiji 37), it established the Nichiren sect Daigakurin under the Technical School Act, and in 1924 (Taisho 13), it was renamed Rissho University under the University Act. In 1949 (Showa 24), it transitioned to a new university with a Buddhist Studies Department and a Literature Department. As of 2010 (Heisei 22), it has eight faculties: Buddhist Studies, Literature, Economics, Business Management, Law, Social Welfare, Earth Environmental Science, and Psychology, and seven graduate schools: Literature, Economics, Law, Business Management, Social Welfare, Earth Environmental Science, and Psychology. It has affiliated research facilities such as the Nichiren Doctrine Research Institute, the Lotus Sutra Culture Research Institute, and the Economic Research Institute. Its headquarters is located at 4-2-16 Osaki, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo.

私立。創立は1580年(天正8)の檀林(だんりん)の開設にまでさかのぼる。1904年(明治37)に専門学校令に基づき日蓮宗(にちれんしゅう)大学林を設立し、1924年(大正13)には大学令により立正大学と改称し、1949年(昭和24)仏教学部、文学部をもつ新制大学に移行した。2010年(平成22)時点で、仏教学、文学、経済学、経営学、法学、社会福祉学、地球環境科学、心理学の8学部と文学、経済学、法学、経営学、社会福祉学、地球環境科学、心理学の7研究科よりなる大学院を置く。附置機関として日蓮教学研究所、法華経(ほけきょう)文化研究所、経済研究所などの研究施設をもつ。本部は東京都品川区大崎4-2-16。
