Lee Jae-in

Japanese:
Lee Jae-in

Date of birth and death unknown. Chinese painter of the early Ming dynasty. Courtesy name Yizheng. Born in Putian (Fujian Province). Famous for influencing Sesshu. During the Xuande era (1426-1435), he worked as a painter at the Renzhi Palace Painting Academy along with Dai Jin, Xie Huan, Shi Rui, and Zhou Wenjing. He is said to have studied under Guo Xi, Ma Yuan, and Xia Gui, but his style of painting, with its rough brushstrokes and heavy ink, is thought to have been strongly influenced by Dai Jin, who was in the same period. His representative works include "Landscape Painting" (Tokyo National Museum) and "Snow Landscape Painting" (Kyoto, private collection).
