...Dutch economy in the 1950s achieved remarkable economic growth and export expansion by realizing national consensus in politics, labor-management stability, low wage and price levels, and promotion of industrialization. In 1946, the Social Democratic Party and the Free Democrats Union dissolved and the Labour Party (PvdA) was formed with the aim of becoming a national party. Labour Party leader Willem Drees (1886-1988) led a broad coalition government excluding the Communist Party for ten years from 1948, leading a difficult political situation and achieving high economic growth. The Drees government faced major challenges, including the colonial independence issue and the great flood that hit the southwestern delta region in February 1953, but the latter bore fruit in the Delta Plan, which resulted in the construction of a delta region cofferdam. ...
