The name of a fictitious Egyptian king. When the Greek historian Herodotus retold the legendary tale of the thief, he gave the king the name Lampsinitos (pronounced Lampsinitus in Latin), hence the name. The carpenter who built the treasury of King Lampsinitus designed it so that only one stone in the wall could be removed. Just before his death, the carpenter told his two sons about it. When the king saw that the treasury was being ransacked, he had a trap set inside. The elder brother was caught in the trap, but to prevent his identity from being revealed, he ordered his younger brother to cut off his head.
