Yunomine [Hot Spring] - Yunomine

Japanese: 湯ノ峰[温泉] - ゆのみね

This hot spring is located in Hongu Town, Higashimuro County, Wakayama Prefecture. It is a sulfurous spring containing baking soda, with a temperature of 92°C. It is said to be effective against rheumatism and skin diseases. It is said to have been discovered during the reign of Emperor Seimu. It is located along the Nakaheji route of the Kumano Highway, about 2km northwest of Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine. Historical records show that the hot spring was used as a purification bath for pilgrims to Kumano, and that aristocrats, including retired emperors, who visited Kumano on pilgrimages to Kumano, bathed here. The story of Oguri Hangan, who was turned into a hungry ghost, returning to his original self in this hot spring is widely known, as seen in the sermon "Oguri Hangan" and other works.

和歌山県東牟婁（ひがしむろ）郡本宮町にある温泉。重曹を含んだ硫黄泉で，泉温は92℃。リウマチや皮膚病などに効能があるとされる。成務天皇の時代に発見されたという伝えがある。熊野街道中辺路（なかへじ）に沿い，熊野本宮大社が北西約2kmにある。熊野詣の湯垢離場（ゆごりば）で，熊野御幸の上皇をはじめ貴族らの入湯が史料にみえる。説経《小栗判官》などにより，餓鬼の姿となった小栗判官がこの湯で元の身になったという話は広く知られる。
