A title for the position of leader of the Jishu sect. Originally, the word "Yugyo" appeared in Buddhist scriptures, and the founder of the sect, Ippen, revered the Heian period wanderer Kuya as "my guide" (Ippen Hijirie, No. 7), and ended his life on a missionary journey (Yugyo), "leaving his residence to the storm" (ibid.). However, in the time of the second patriarch, Taa Shinkyo, the Jishu sect members accepted the requests of many patrons and began to reside in temples and dojos, solidifying the sect's structure.
