...The head temple of the Yamashina school of Shingon Buddhism in Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City. The mountain name is Kikkozan. It is also called Kajuji or Kanjuji. The temple was built for Emperor Daigo's mother, Fujiwara no Inshi, on the site of the residence of her grandfather, Miyaji Yamasu, the district governor of Uji County, with Shoshun as its founder. This is the founding of the temple, and the most likely date is 900 (3rd year of Shotai). From the time of the 7th head, Kanshin, who mastered the depths of esoteric Buddhism, the temple became the headquarters of the Kanshuji school of the Shingon Ono school, and in the Kamakura period it became a palace temple where successive generations of princes entered the temple, and it flourished greatly under the protection of the imperial family and the Fujiwara clan during the Heian and Kamakura periods. ...
