Xiangfan
The former name of Xiangyang City in northwestern Hubei Province, China. Located at the confluence of the Han River and Baihe River, it is a merged city of the old Xiangyang on the south bank of the Han River and Fancheng on the north bank. It is located along the Han-Dan Railway (Hanxi to Danjiangkou), and small steamships run from Wuhan. It has been a strategic military and transportation location since ancient times, and is also the site of an ancient battle between the Southern Song army and the Mongol army. It is a distribution center for products from the upper reaches of the Han River. The population of Xiangyang City is 2.26 million (2014).
