This is a book on Japanese history that Iida Tadahiko spent 38 years working on and completed in 1851 (Kaei 4). It is written in classical Chinese. It is also known as Dai Nihon Yashi (Unofficial History of Japan), Nihon Yashi (Unofficial History of Japan), and Zoku Dai Nihonshi (Continued Dai Nihonshi). It is a large work consisting of 21 volumes of the main chronicle and 270 volumes of biographies, totaling 291 volumes, with the first three volumes being the first. It succeeded the Mito Domain's Dai Nihonshi (Unofficial History of Japan), and details historical facts over a period of over 420 years, from the Meitoku era of Emperor Gokomatsu (1390-94) to the Bunsei era of Emperor Ninko (1818-30), in the form of a chronicle. It is highly valuable as a biographical resource. The author was a vassal of Prince Arisugawa, and has also written many books on national history and genealogy.
