A Fudai Daimyo family in the Edo period. Its ancestor was Yoshitoki, the son of Minamoto no Yoshiie, and his son Yoshimoto ruled Ishikawa County in Kawachi (Osaka Prefecture), so the family name was Ishikawa. At the end of the Kamakura period, the family moved to Oyama in Shimotsuke (Tochigi Prefecture), and during the reign of Masayasu, they followed Honganji Rennyo to Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture), and since his son Chikayasu served Matsudaira Chikatada, the family has served as a chief retainer for generations. Ienari, who served Tokugawa Ieyasu, was made the leader of western Mikawa, and his nephew Kazumasa took on the role. The family of the head of the family, Ienari, moved to Ogaki in Mino (Gifu Prefecture), Sakura in Shimousa (Chiba Prefecture), and inherited 60,000 koku of land in Kameyama, Ise (Mie Prefecture), until the domain was abolished in the Meiji period. Kazumasa defected to Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1585 (Tensho 13) and was given Matsumoto Castle in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture). His son Yasunaga served Ieyasu, but was implicated in the Okubo Nagayasu Incident (1613) and had his territory confiscated. There were also daimyo families (Shimodate Domain, Hitachi) and hatamoto families as branch families.
