Mleccha (English spelling)

Japanese: ムレッチャ（英語表記）Mleccha

In ancient Indian texts, this term refers to barbarians, barbarians, or foreigners. It means those who live outside the Aryan lands, that is, outside the lands where Brahmanism (Hinduism) is practiced and the four Varna order is maintained. Those who belong to the three Varnas (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas) (Aryas) avoided going to the country of the mlecchas or associating with them as an unclean act. Historically, peoples considered to be mlecchas have often invaded and dominated India.

古代インドの文献で蛮族，夷狄，外国人をさす語。アーリヤ人の住地の外部に住む者，すなわちバラモン教(ヒンドゥー教)が行われ4バルナの秩序が維持された国の外に住む者を意味する。バラモン，クシャトリヤ，バイシャの3バルナに属す者(アーリヤ)は，ムレッチャの国に行くことやムレッチャと交際することを，けがれをもたらす行為として避けた。歴史的にみると，ムレッチャとみなされる諸民族がしばしばインドに侵入し，この地を支配している。
