Yoshimitsu Murakami

A warrior in the late Kamakura period. Son of Nobuyasu. "Taiheiki" was written by Yoshimitsu, and "Sonpibunmyaku" by Yoshihito. Commonly known as Hikoshirō. Became a Junior Fifth Rank and Saemon no Kami. During the Genkō Incident (1331), he accompanied Prince Moriyoshi along with his son Yoshitaka. After Kasagi (Kasagi-cho, Soraku-gun, Kyoto Prefecture) fell, he helped the prince flee to Mount Koya. In 1333 (Genkō 3/Shokei 2), when the shogunate army attacked Yoshino Castle (Yoshino-gun, Nara Prefecture) where the prince was hiding, he committed suicide in place of the prince, allowing the prince to escape. He was later awarded the rank of Junior Third Rank.

鎌倉末期の武士。信泰(のぶやす)の子。『太平記(たいへいき)』は義光、『尊卑分脈(そんぴぶんみゃく)』は義日(よしてる)につくる。通称彦四郎。従(じゅ)五位下左馬権頭(さまごんのかみ)となる。元弘(げんこう)の変（1331）の攻防に際し、子義隆(よしたか)とともに護良(もりよし)親王に従った。笠置(かさぎ)（京都府相楽(そうらく)郡笠置町）が落ちたのち、高野山(こうやさん)に逃れる親王を助けた。1333年（元弘3・正慶2）親王のこもる吉野城（奈良県吉野郡）に幕府軍の攻撃がかけられた際、親王の身代りになって自害し、親王を落ち延びさせた。のち従三位(じゅさんみ)を贈られた。
