A former town in Takada County, central Hiroshima Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Misasa River, a tributary of the Ota River. The main settlement is Mukaihara along the Geibi Line, and many people commute to Hiroshima City for work or school. The town is primarily agricultural, producing a large amount of pears (Takada pears), as well as timber and pulp. In March 2004, it merged with the towns of Yoshida, Yachiyo, Midori, Takamiya, and Koda in Takada County to form Aki-Takata City. 82.12 km2. Population: 4,786 (2003).
