Spanish thinker and writer. Professor of Greek at the University of Salamanca and a representative writer of the "Generation of '98," he produced many excellent works in a variety of genres, including essays, novels, poetry, and plays. His representative works include "On Nativism," which discusses Spanish tradition and its essence, "The Tragic Feeling of Life," which deals with the eternal conflict between reason and faith, and "The Lives of Don Quixote and Sancho," in which he finds a strong desire for eternal life in the knight Don Quixote, who pursues honor.
