Mirny (English spelling) Мирный/Mirnïy

A city in the Sakha Republic in the eastern part of the Russian Federation. It is located on the banks of the Irelyakh River, which is a tributary of the Lena River, and has a population of 33,500 (estimated in 2003). It was founded in 1955 for diamond mining, and became a city in 1959. It is connected to Lensk, a port on the Lena River to the south, by a highway (230 km).

ロシア連邦東部、サハ共和国の都市。レナ川支流ビリュイ川水系に属するイレリャフ川の岸沿いに位置する。人口3万3500(2003推計)。1955年にダイヤモンド採掘のため建設され、59年に市となった。南方のレナ川の港レンスクと自動車道で連絡している(230キロメートル)。
