This refers to Kabuki dance that deals with michiyuki. Many of them express the feelings of a man and woman heading for a double suicide, weaving in the scenery on the way to their destination. They can be parent and child, master and servant, or one or more people. During the Genroku period (1688-1704), it was established as a form of puppet theater, but the ban on double suicides in 1723 shifted the emphasis to scenery on the way. Around the Kanpo period (1741-1744), michiyuki joruri came to be always added to the important Ogiri (New Year's Kyogen) performances of Edo Kabuki. Works from the Kansei period (1889-1801) onwards prominently feature the appearance of street vendors and traveling performers who counsel the man and woman about to commit double suicide. His works include "The Journey of the First Sound of a Myriad of Chrysanthemums" (Mount Yoshino), "The Flower Bride on the Journey of the Journey" (The Fugitive), "The Colorful Peas" (Kasane), "The Journey of the Butterfly" (→Keigoto).
