Ojoji Temple

A Jodo sect temple in Ochi, Nagano City. It is called Anrakuzan. It is known as the final resting place of Karikaya Doshin, famous for the story "Karukaya". Doshin was the lord of Hakata Castle in Karikayasho, Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture), and his real name was Kato Saemon Shigeuji. Sensing the impermanence of the world, he abandoned his wife, children and treasures and set out on a journey of training. His son Ishidomaru followed his mother to Mount Koya, where he became his father's disciple and took the name Ojobo Donen. However, Doshin parted ways with Ishidomaru and built a hermitage next to Zenkoji Temple, where he enshrined a statue of Jizo Bodhisattva and trained there. After Doshin's death in 1214 (Kenpo 2), Sekidomaru is said to have visited this hermitage, enshrined a statue of Jizo Bodhisattva, and passed away at the temple; a father-son Jizo statue has been enshrined in the main hall.

長野市往生地にある浄土宗の寺。安楽山と号する。「苅萱(かるかや)」物語で名高い苅萱道心の永眠の地として知られる。道心は筑前(ちくぜん)国（福岡県）苅萱庄(しょう)、博多(はかた)の城主で、俗名を加藤左衛門繁氏(しげうじ)と称したが、世の無常を感じ、妻子財宝を捨て修行の旅に出る。子の石童丸(いしどうまる)は母と後を追って高野山(こうやさん)にきて、父の弟子となり往生坊道念と称した。しかし道心は石童丸と別れ、善光寺の傍らに草庵(そうあん)を建て、地蔵菩薩(じぞうぼさつ)像を安置して修行した。1214年（建保2）道心の死後、石童丸はこの草庵を訪れ、地蔵菩薩像を祀(まつ)り、この寺で没したと伝え、本堂に親子地蔵像が安置されている。
