Later, in America, Burleigh C. and others improved on Faull's patent in 1866, produced a pneumatic rock drill driven by compressed air, which was successfully used in tunnel construction. Meanwhile, in France, the pneumatic rock drill invented by M. Sommeiller in 1861 was actually used.
