Ancient documents from the Middle Ages onwards in Japan. Documents submitted by recipients as proof of receipt when receiving various things such as money, goods, documents, etc. A typical example would be a receipt for the price of sold farmland. Most are short sentences with receipt phrases such as "so-request-like-item" or "so-request-like-item." They affirm the fact of receipt and compliance with the various obligations that arise with it, and in terms of document format they can be said to have differentiated from ukebun. In this respect they are distinguished from hensho (which was originally an administrative receipt issued by government offices under the Ritsuryo system).
