A mountain range in the eastern Himalayas, east of the Manaslu mountain range, on the border between Nepal and Tibet. The name is derived from Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god of wisdom. The seven peaks are: the highest peak at 7,406m, the second peak Lapsang Karbo at 7,150m, the fourth peak Pabir at 7,102m, the sixth peak Lampu at 6,480m, the unnamed third peak at 7,132m, the fifth peak at 6,950m, and the seventh peak at 6,350m. In 1949, British expeditioner Tilghman explored the range, and in 1953 a New Zealand team and a Japanese team attempted to climb it, and in 1955 a joint French-Swiss team succeeded in the first ascent of the main peak.
