A wide-area historic site preservation and improvement project implemented by the Agency for Cultural Affairs since 1966. According to the establishment guidelines, "The purpose is to promote wide-area preservation and environmental improvement of areas with many ruins such as ancient tombs and castle ruins that represent the traditional historical and cultural characteristics of each region, and to establish museums in the region to store and exhibit historical, archaeological, and folk materials that are the products of local culture, thereby promoting the integrated preservation and popularization of these ruins and materials." The project aims to open both the ruins and artifacts to the public through the dual focus of historic site preservation and museum operation.
