The ancient name of Hoi An, the capital of the former Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam. Since the Quang Nam (Cantonese) Dynasty established its capital in Hue in the early 17th century, it has flourished as an international trading port along with Tu Lan (now Da Nang). The Japanese town in this city in particular prospered through red seal ship trade, and many Japanese people, including the wealthy Ise merchant Kadoya Shichirobei, immigrated there. The Raion Bridge in the city is also called Nihonbashi, and in the suburbs remain the Tomb of Nihon Hirado Akenoya Jirobei Tani no Kami (built in 1647) and the Tomb of Nihon Ko Bunran Gusokukun (built in 1689).
