The remains of an ancient city in Lebanon. Currently, it is located in Jubayl, north of Beirut. In the Old Testament, it is called Gebal. It dates back to the Neolithic period, and flourished as a shipping port for cedars of Lebanon during the Early Egyptian Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom Period, and continued to exist until the Crusades. The Greeks called the papyrus that was circulated through the area Byblos, from which words such as "Bible" were later born. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1984.

レバノンの古代都市遺跡。現在，ベイルートの北にあるジュバイルJubaylにあたる。《旧約聖書》ではゲバルGebal。新石器時代にさかのぼり，エジプト初期王朝時代，古王国時代にはレバノン杉の積出港として栄え，十字軍時代まで存続。同地を経て流通したパピルスをギリシア人がビュブロスと呼んだことから，後世Bibleなどの語が生まれた。1984年世界文化遺産に登録。
