The remains of an ancient city in Lebanon. Currently, it is located in Jubayl, north of Beirut. In the Old Testament, it is called Gebal. It dates back to the Neolithic period, and flourished as a shipping port for cedars of Lebanon during the Early Egyptian Dynastic Period and the Old Kingdom Period, and continued to exist until the Crusades. The Greeks called the papyrus that was circulated through the area Byblos, from which words such as "Bible" were later born. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1984. → Related article Phoenicia Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
