Year of death: Tennin 1.12.12 (1109.1.14) Year of birth: Unknown. A Buddhist sculptor of the In school in the late Heian period. Said to be the son of either Kakusuke or Nagase. Later, he split off from Jocho's Shichijo Buddhist Temple and established Shichijo Omiya Buddhist Temple (the beginning of the In school. It was so named because the Buddhist sculptor's name began with the character "in"). In 1077, he was involved in the creation of a Buddha statue for the Golden Hall of Hossho-ji Temple, which was the temple of Emperor Shirakawa, and became a Hokkyo along with Kanekei for the merit of creating the 18-foot-tall statue of Itoku Myoo in the Yakushido Hall of Hossho-ji Temple. In 1105, he also worked with Ensei to create various statues for the court noble palace to help Emperor Horikawa recover from his illness, and in the same year, he was promoted to the rank of Hokan for his merit in creating a Buddha statue for the New Hall of Sonsho-ji Temple. There are many documented records of his work, including the creation of a Shaka Triad in 1107 and an Amida Triad for a memorial service for Emperor Horikawa in 1108, but no known surviving works remain.
