Forehead - Forehead

Japanese:
Forehead - Forehead
A name for a part of the forehead. It was only after the Heian period that it came to be called "hitai"; before that it was called "nuka." "My sister's forehead was covered with a sore on the saddle of the sugoroku bull" (Man'yoshu, Volume 16, 3838). The Chinese "kowtow ceremony," in which one bows with one's forehead on the ground to deities and Buddhas, is called "nukazuki" in Japan. The rice pounding bug was called nukazukimushi. In the Wagokuhen, the words so, sen, tsui, and tei refer to the forehead, but the forehead is not raised.
