A former town in Yuri County, western Akita Prefecture. The Uetsu Main Line runs through it. Kameda developed as a camp town for the Iwaki clan during the Edo period, and is known for producing Kameda Jiori cotton. Agriculture is the main industry. In March 2005, Honjo City, and the towns of Yajima, Yuri, Nishime, Chokai, Higashiyuri, and Ouchi in Yuri County were merged to form Yurihonjo City. Area: 108.10 km2 . Population: 6,428 (2003).
