A former town in Yuri County, western Akita Prefecture. The Uetsu Main Line runs through it. Kameda developed as a camp town for the Iwaki clan during the Edo period, and is known for producing Kameda Jiori cotton. Agriculture is the main industry. In March 2005, Honjo City, and the towns of Yajima, Yuri, Nishime, Chokai, Higashiyuri, and Ouchi in Yuri County were merged to form Yurihonjo City. Area: 108.10 km2 . Population: 6,428 (2003). 秋田県西部，由利郡の旧町。羽越本線が通じる。亀田は江戸時代岩城氏の陣屋町として発達，亀田地織木綿の産で知られる。農業を主産業とする。2005年３月本荘市，由利郡矢島町，由利町，西目町，鳥海町，東由利町，大内町と合併し市制，由利本荘市となる。108.10km2。6428人（2003）。
