Irumagawa River

[1] A river in the southwest of Saitama Prefecture. It originates from the Tsumasaka Pass in the Chichibu Mountains and flows into the Arakawa River in the eastern part of Kawagoe City. The upper reaches are also called the Naguri River. [一] 埼玉県南西部の川。秩父山地の妻坂峠を源とし、川越市の東部で荒川に合流する。上流部は名栗川とも呼ばれる。全長約六五キロメートル。※太平記（１４Ｃ後）一〇「武蔵上野両国の勢六万余騎を相副(そ)へて、上路より入間河(イルマカハ)へ向けらる」[二] 狂言。入間川にさしかかった大名が、物事を反対にいう入間詞を聞いておもしろがり、衣服や太刀などを与えるが、最後に、その入間詞で欺き、持物を取り返す。三大名物(だいみょうもの)の一つ。
