The largest manor in Tosa, covering almost the entire Hata District of Tosa Province and part of Takaoka District. It covers the current Hata District of Kochi Prefecture, Nakamura City (currently Shimanto City), Sukumo City, Tosashimizu City, and other areas. Ichijo family estate. In the early 13th century, Tosa Province became the domain of the Kujo family, and Hata Manor is thought to have been established during the time of Kujo Michiie, but the details and year of its establishment are unknown. In 1250, when Michiie disposed of his family estate, Hata Manor was transferred to his son Ichijo Sanetune. Manor officials included the usual positions of Kumon and Geshi, as well as Funadokoro, which was responsible for paying taxes and transporting goods. Since the Onin War, invasions and seizures by local powers have intensified, so in 1468 Ichijo Kaneyoshi's eldest son, Norifusa, went to Hata Manor and made successful efforts to recover the family estate. From then on, the Tosa Ichijo clan made their fortune through trade along the southern sea route and transformed into Sengoku daimyo, ruling over Hata Sho until they surrendered to the Chosokabe clan in 1575.

土佐国幡多(はた)郡のほぼ全域と高岡郡の一部を占めた土佐最大の荘園。現高知県幡多郡・中村市（現・四万十市）・宿毛(すくも)市・土佐清水市などにわたる。一条家領。13世紀初頭に土佐国は九条家の知行国となり，九条道家の時代に幡多荘が成立したとみられるが，立荘の経緯や年次は不明。1250年の道家の家領処分で幡多荘は子の一条実経に譲渡された。荘官には通例の公文(くもん)・下司(げし)などのほか年貢や物資輸送のための船所(ふなどころ)職が置かれていた。応仁の乱の頃から在地勢力の侵略・押領(おうりょう)が激化したため，1468年一条兼良の長子教房が幡多荘に下向，家領の回復に努めて成果を上げた。以後土佐一条氏は南海路交易にかかわって財をなし，戦国大名へと転身，1575年に長宗我部(ちょうそかべ)氏に屈するまで幡多荘に君臨した。
