Ylang-ylang tree

An evergreen tall tree of the Annonaceae family. It is found in India and Southeast Asia, and can reach a height of 40m. The leaves are alternate and oblong. The flowers are yellow-green and give off a strong fragrance. They are used as fragrances in various places, and the expensive ylang-ylang perfume that became popular in Europe from the late 19th century was made by distilling the flowers. バンレイシ科の常緑高木。インド〜東南アジアなどに分布し，高さ40mに達する。葉は互生し，長楕円形。花は黄緑色で，強い芳香を放つ。各地で香料にされ，19世紀後半からヨーロッパで流行した高価なイランイラン香水はこの花を蒸留したもの。また調理に使われるマカッサル油の原料ともなる。街路樹にもされる。
