This statistical survey was conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the aim of clarifying the reproduction process of individual agricultural management in Japan and the trends in farm economy. It is designated as Statistic No. 36. In 1994, the Farm Economy Survey was integrated with the Rice Production Cost Survey and the Production Cost Survey of Agricultural and Livestock Products Other Than Rice and Cocoons, and is now conducted as the Agricultural Management Statistics Survey. This survey largely follows the content of the Farm Economy Survey. The Farm Economic Survey was a representative survey among various statistical surveys aimed at grasping the actual state and changes of the economic trends and economic structures of farmers, foresters, and fishermen as the national economy developed. This survey was started in 1913 (Taisho 2) and continued until it was succeeded by the Agricultural Management Statistics Survey, after a temporary hiatus.
