A periodical news report pamphlet, the precursor to newspapers. Also called a "news-sheet." In the 1620s, many news media (corantos) similar to newspapers were published in Amsterdam, the "news-distribution center" of Europe, and they also found their way into England. Thomas Archer is said to have been the first to translate and publish this Dutch news media in 1621. However, Archer was imprisoned for this, and no original copies remain.
