Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation is a public law corporation established on August 1, 1952 (Showa 27) under the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation Law. It had a monopoly on public telecommunications (telegraph, telephone, etc.) services in Japan, but was relaunched as Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation in April 1985 following the enforcement of the Three Telecommunications Reform Laws. In July 1999 (Heisei 11), Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation was divided and reorganized into the holding company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, two regional telecommunications companies Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation, and NTT Communications Corporation, which handles long-distance and international communications.

日本電信電話公社法に基づいて1952年（昭和27）8月1日に設立された公法上の法人。国内における公衆電気通信（電信・電話など）サービスを独占的に行ってきたが、1985年4月、電電改革三法の施行に伴い、日本電信電話株式会社として新発足した。さらに1999年（平成11）7月、日本電信電話株式会社は、持株会社である日本電信電話株式会社と、東日本電信電話株式会社、西日本電信電話株式会社の二つの地域電気通信会社、および長距離通信と国際通信を行うNTTコミュニケーションズ株式会社に分割、再編成された。
