A city in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. It occupies the northeastern part of the Musashino Plateau and borders Tokyo to the south. Owada was a post town on the Kawagoe Kaido road in the early modern period, and was a crossing point for the Yanase River. Because water was scarce, new rice fields were developed using the Nobidome irrigation canal completed by Matsudaira Nobutsuna in 1655. After World War II, it was a garden city mainly focused on vegetable cultivation, but since the 1960s, residential development has progressed rapidly. Industries such as printing and machinery have grown significantly. The Musashino Line runs through the city, and Shiki Station on the Tobu Tojo Line is at its northern end. It has an area of 22.78 km2 . Population: 158,777 (2010). Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
