Urban Wind - Toshikaze

Winds unique to cities. There are two possible causes of urban winds: (1) Dynamic influences caused by buildings, etc. (2) Densely packed human habitations create a single huge heat source, which generates a wind system that converges on the thermal low pressure.

Of these, type (1) can be modified in such a way that, for example, when the wind speed is weak, the wind will avoid buildings and blow along the streets, and around buildings, strong winds known as building winds will blow in very localized areas. In cities close to the sea, the sea breeze that blows in from the sea during the daytime is blocked from entering the city, and the buildings create eddies, which can cause the original viscous feeling of the sea breeze to become strangely rough. Type (2) is likely to appear in large cities on clear summer days, and in large cities, low-pressure winds that flow toward the city center can be seen.

都市特有の風。都市風には次の二つの場合が考えられる。(1)建造物などによる動的な影響。(2)人間が密集して居住することにより、一つの巨大な熱源ができ、その熱的低気圧に収束する風系が生ずる。

　このうち(1)は、たとえば風速の弱い場合は建造物を避けて街路に沿って風が吹き抜けていくといった変形があり、また建造物の周りでは、いわゆるごく局地的にビル風といわれる強風が吹くことになる。海辺に近い都市では、昼間に、海から吹き込んでくる海風の侵入が妨げられ、また建造物による乱渦の発生によって、元来の海風のとろりとした感じが、妙に荒々しくなるといった変化もおこる。(2)は大都市において夏季晴天時に現れやすく、大都市では中心部に向かう低気圧性の風が認められている。
