Tang Liu Classics - Tang Liu Classics

Based on the government system of the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty (713-741), China, this book compiles and classifies the history of successive dynasties, legal codes concerning official duties, and imperial edicts. It has 30 volumes. It was compiled by Emperor Xuanzong and annotated by Li Linfu and others. The imperial edict to compile it was given in 722, and it was finally completed in 738. Because this book is based on the 719 law code, there are some differences with the 737 law, which was the current system at the time of completion, and it is suspected that this was why it was not forcibly implemented. The content is modeled after the Zhou Rites (Ceremonies of Zhou), and is divided into the Three Masters and Three Gongs, the Three Ministry, One Tai, Nine Temples, Five Superintendents, and One Twelve Wei. It is one of the basic historical materials for research into the lost Tang laws. It was published in the Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, but only about half of the Song edition remains. The most convenient editions are the Japanese edition edited by Konoe Iehiro, or the Hiroike edition, which was revised by Hiroike Senkuro and added kunkan annotations to the Konoe edition and revised by Uchida Tomoo in the Song edition and elsewhere.
