A technique used in Chinese painting. Ink dots (sometimes with added color) applied to mountains, rocks, earthen pots, and tree trunks can appear as moss, grass, or trees depending on how you look at them, but are used to give the picture a sense of rhythm. Dots are one of the ink-wash techniques, and in Linquan Gaozhi, the brush strokes are divided into light and light, wrinkle rubbing, rolling, brushing, rubbing, dotting, and painting. They were often used around the time of Dong Yuan, who painted Jiangnan landscapes, and were originally realistic, but dots and moss are formalized ink dots, and the term has been used since the Wu school of literati painting became popular in the late Ming Dynasty, and is explained in detail in Tang Zhiqi's Weiyan of Paintings.
