In 1906, an incident occurred in the Egyptian village of Danshiwāy, which was under British colonial rule, between British soldiers who had come to shoot pigeons and farmers. In the trial of the dead British soldier, many farmers were hanged as a warning to others, and the Egyptian masses, who had been relatively silent up until then, began to actively support the national liberation movement. In this situation, political parties such as the Nationalist Party were organized for the first time in Egypt, and the national liberation movement entered a new stage, but in the end the movement was limited to the intellectual class, and the national upsurge that had been so great stagnated thereafter.

1906年，イギリスの植民地支配下にあるエジプトのデンシワーイDanshiwāy村で鳩撃ちに来たイギリス兵士と農民との間におこった事件。死亡したイギリス兵士をめぐる裁判で多数の農民がみせしめに絞首刑にされたため，これまで比較的沈黙を守ってきたエジプトの大衆は，民族解放運動を積極的に支持するようになった。こうした状況の中で国民党をはじめとする諸政党がエジプトではじめて組織化されて民族解放運動は新たな段階に入るが，結局運動は知識人層にのみとどまり，せっかくの民族的高揚はその後停滞してしまった。
