1928‐ Austrian pianist. He studied under Gieseking and others at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He made his debut in Vienna in 1943 and won first prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition in 1956. His playing style is characterized by a soft and warm tone, and is often described as neo-romantic. He is highly regarded not only for his performances of classical works, but also for his performances of Schubert and Schumann, and especially Debussy.
