Tigran II

Japanese: ティグラン[2世](英語表記)Tigran II
Tigran II
140 BCE - 56 BCE
King of the Artasides dynasty of the Caucasian Armenian Kingdom at its height. Reigned 95-56 BC. Known as "the Great." He unified Armenia and controlled the kings of Iberia (present-day eastern Georgia), Caucasian Albania, and Attrapatene. After annexing Seleucid Syria (83 BC), his territory extended from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. He built a new capital, Tigranokert, southwest of Lake Van. He tried to maintain friendly relations with neighboring Pontus through a marriage alliance, but was defeated by a surprise attack by the Roman army in 69 BC and became a vassal.
