Silent Spring - Chinmoku no Haru

Japanese:
Silent Spring - Chinmoku no Haru
A book published in 1962 by American biologist Rachel H. Carson. Carson was the first to warn that the large-scale aerial spraying of organochlorine pesticides such as DDT, which was carried out in various parts of the United States at the time, not only caused serious damage to wild birds and fish and shellfish, but also that the sprayed pesticides could remain in crops and fish and shellfish and be ingested by humans, causing adverse effects on human health. Within six months of its release, one million copies had been sold, and some countries decided to regulate organochlorine pesticides based on this book. In the United States, the federal Congress revised the Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Control Act in 1964, and since 1970, 30 related laws have been enacted to protect human health and the environment from chemicals, including the Toxic Substances Control Act, the Safe Water Supply Act, and the amendment to the Pesticide Control Act.
