Japanese: 沖積平野 - ちゅうせきへいや（英語表記）alluvial plain

A plain formed by river sedimentation, which continues to this day. In Japan, it is also used to mean a plain formed in the Holocene (alluvial epoch). Alluvial plains formed by river sedimentation are broadly divided into valley plains, alluvial fans, and deltas from upstream. In the latter sense, some alluvial plains are made up of marine deposits, lake deposits, and lagoon deposits from the Holocene (alluvial epoch) transgression.

河川の堆積作用によって生じ，現在までその作用が続いている平野。日本では完新世 (沖積世) に形成された平野という意味にも用いられる。河川の堆積作用によって生じた沖積平野は，上流から谷底平野，扇状地，三角州に大区分される。後者の意味での沖積平野には完新世 (沖積世) 海進時の海底堆積物や湖，潟の堆積物から成る部分もある。
