Nakajo clan

Japanese: 中条氏 - ちゅうじょううじ
Nakajo clan
A medieval samurai family whose main territory was Nakajo no Yashiro in Musashi Province (northern Saitama Prefecture). Yoshikatsufusa Hohashi Narihiro (also known as Nakajo Hoin), a descendant of the Yokoyama clan of the Seven Clans of Musashi and who ruled Nakajo no Yashiro, was adopted by Hatta Tomoie, a powerful clan in Shimotsuke Province, and became the ancestor of the Nakajo clan of the Fujiwara surname. Ienaga was also a member of the army led by Minamoto no Noriyori and Yoshitsune in pursuit of the Taira clan, but he is better known for his achievements in government affairs in peacetime. He was a member of the Council of Ministers, established in 1225 (Karoku 1), and served in that position until his death in 1236 (Katei 2), and he also frequently traveled to Kyoto as a special envoy conveying orders from the shogunate.

Nakajo clan

A medieval samurai family in Echigo. The head family of the Miura Wada clan, who ruled over Okuyama Manor. Since Wada Yoshishige, a member of the powerful Miura clan of Sagami Province, became land steward of Okuyama Manor at the beginning of the Kamakura period, various parts of the manor were divided among the family through divisional inheritance. During the Nanboku-cho period, the head family's control over the family weakened, and illegitimate children separated their territories into surnames, and the Kurokawa, Haguro, and Tsukiji clans were established. The head family also called themselves the Nakajo clan from the mid-Muromachi period onwards, and survived the turmoil of the late Middle Ages by making the Tsukiji clan a vassal while fighting against the Kurokawa clan and others, and later belonged to the Uesugi clan.
