The only non-family-owned company among major construction companies. Established in 1873 as the civil engineering division of Okura-gumi, it became independent as Nippon Doboku in collaboration with Shibusawa and Fujita from 1887 to 1892, but was absorbed back into Okura-gumi, and became independent as Okura Doboku-gumi in 1917, taking on its current name in 1946. It competes with Kajima Construction, but is the industry leader in terms of group strength. Actively developing cutting-edge technologies such as skyscrapers and earthquake-resistant buildings. Head office in Tokyo. Capital in 2011 was 112.4 billion yen. Sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 1,218.1 billion yen.
