He was the first teacher of Furuta Oribe, and one of his disciples, Kuwayama Sakon, was a pupil of Katagiri Sekishu. It is said that in 1601, Hosokawa Tadaoki granted him a fief in Buzen. He is known for his ingenious design of small rooms known as Doan-guri, and there are many tools that convey his taste, such as the Doan brazier. <References> "Sakai City History" (Toda Katsuhisa) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
