A perennial plant of the Umbelliferae family (APG classification: Umbelliferae). A species endemic to Japan consisting of only one species in one genus, it has short stems and stalk-like inflorescences, 10-30 cm tall. The leaves are basal and 2-3 times trilobed compound. The petioles are purple and swollen at the base. White flowers bloom from March to May. The fruits have no oil ducts. It commonly grows in the shade of trees in the mountains and fields, and is found from Hokkaido to Kyushu. A variant with thin leaf lobes less than 1 mm wide is called Miyamasentosou, and is found from central Honshu to Kyushu. [Yuichi Kadota November 17, 2021] A species endemic to Japan.
