Confédération générale du travail‐Force ouvrière (General Confederation of Labour, Workers' Power). However, Confédération is more appropriately translated as "confederation." It is often simply called "FO" or "workers' power." It was formed in 1948 by a minority who left the CGT when the influence of the Communist Party grew. It had 530,000 members (1991), with most of its members in the civil service, postal services, metals, and railways sectors. In terms of composition, 89% were male, 11% female, 43% in the private sector, and 57% in the public and nationalized sectors (1980). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
